In the Regulation Amending the Regulation on the Implementation of the Turkish Citizenship Law published in the Official Gazette dated 12.12.2023, an important amendment was made regarding the Obtaining of Turkish Citizenship by Foreigners Through Acquisition of Property. The amendment entered into force as of the date of publication.
The relevant amendment has been made with regards to the purchase of "property" for foreigners to obtain Turkish citizenship. Previously, the concept of "property" in this context meant that foreigners could obtain citizenship if they purchased any properties, i.e. land, fields and plots of land with no buildings on it, worth USD 400,000, provided that the title deeds are annotated that the said property not to be sold for 3 years; on the other hand with the new regulation, the concept of ‘’property’’ has been narrowed and it is now stipulated that foreigners may be obtain citizenship if they purchase "property with the characteristics of land on which a condominium or condominium easement has been established or on which there is a building".
